#12 Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Campaign at ITA Regional Championships

Ananya Annapantula surpassed 40 career doubles wins.

The #12 Middlebury women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule at the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) New England Regional Championship at Bowdoin.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ren Barton (6-0, 6-0) and Diya Pachamuthu (7-5, 7-6 (7-5)) each won their round of 64 matches in the 'A' draw against Justine Porowski of Emerson and Babson's Vanessa Vu, respectively.
  • Barton earned the first set in the next round against Zoe Sun of Bowdoin before the Polar Bear matched with a 7-5 triumph to push the match to a superbreaker. Sun prevailed by a 10-8 margin to advance to the round of 16.
  • Pachamuthu stood tall in her next match, grabbing a three-set thriller (1-6, 6-1, 10-5) over Anwi Duduka before falling to fifth-seeded Mariia Kornilova in consecutive sets during the round of 16.
  • Lauren Oliver represented the navy and white in the 'B' draw and won her round of 64 match against Amaya Briones of Emerson (8-4).

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Barton and Ananya Annapantula tallied two victories as a 9-16 seed before bowing out in the quarterfinals. The pairing earned an 8-6 triumph over the Amherst duo of Duduka and Sam Talwar and an 8-4 win against Ninia Costlas and Naomi Williams of Williams. 
  • Pachamuthu and Caitlin Chan logged an 8-1 victory against Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Nishi Gandra/Michelle Ge in their opening-round matchup.

NOTES

  • Annapantula and Barton surpassed 40 and 25 doubles victories, respectively.

Middlebury wraps up its fall slate at the three-day Bowdoin Invitational next weekend.
