Swimming & Diving Hosts Williams, Hamilton in Tri-Meet

The Panther swimming and diving teams concluded their dual meet portion of the schedule when they hosted a tri-meet with Hamilton and Williams. The Middlebury women defeated the Continentals by a score of 222-77, but fell to the sixth-ranked Ephs 171-122, while the men bested Hamilton 212-66 and were defeated by No. 19 Williams 164-110. Middlebury returns to action on Friday and Saturday when it hosts the annual Middlebury Invitational. Action begins on Friday at 5:30 p.m. while Saturday's events are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.

During the women's competition, the Panthers swam to three individual victories as well as a relay win. Frances VanderMeer won the 50 backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 27.46. Audrey Hsi claimed the 100 backstroke for the Panthers in 1:00.96, while Grace Stimson won the 100 individual medley in 1:02.74.

The final event of the day saw the 200 free relay team of VanderMeer, Maddie McKean, Courtney Gantt and Erin Kelly stop the clock with a winning time of 1:39.86.

Runner-up swims came from Kelly in the 50 breaststroke (31.97) and Hannah Wander during the 100 breaststroke (1:10.40).

On the diving boards, Olivia Rieur dove to a second-place effort in the 1-meter event (222.95 points), while Kacey Hertan was the runner-up in the 3-meter competition (233.35 points).

In the men's action, the 200 freestyle relay team of Corey Jalbert, Jake Gaughan, Bryan Chang and Brendan Leech touched first with a time of 1:27.56.

Runner-up efforts came from Aska Matsuda in the 1,000 free (10:15.53) and Leech during the 50 backstroke (24.93). Cody Kim stopped the clock with a second-place time in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.89), while Charles Quinn was the runner-up in the 100 individual medley (55.44).

During the diving competition, Mike Chirico earned both the 1-meter (267.75 points) and 3-meter event crowns (271.75 points).
