#25 Middlebury Hits The Water For Second Day of NCAA Championships

Isla Johnston competed in Thursday's 200-yard freestyle and 200 free relay.
The #25 Middlebury women's swimming and diving team saw four Panthers take to the pool for the second day of the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Isla Johnston battled the nation's best in the 200-yard freestyle preliminary race, cutting 1.56 seconds off her seed time to place 42nd (1:55.56).
  • The quartet of Anna McGrew, Lauren Jolley, Hannah Baumgartner and Johnston placed 23rd in the 200 free relay, touching the wall at 1:35.34. McGrew darted down and back in 22.83 seconds, pacing the group with the 12th-fastest individual split of the event.
NOTES
  • The relay team missed the program record by just over eight-tenths of a second (0.81). The mark of 1:34.53 was established by Morgan Burke, Maya Gomez, Isabel Wyer and Frances VanderMeer in 2017.
The 800 free relay awaits Middlebury on day three of the national meet. McGrew and Johnston will contest the 100 free and 1,650 free, respectively, before the 400 free relay caps the championship invite.
