Anna McGrew led the field to the wall in Saturday's 100 free consolation final.
Anna McGrew won the consolation final during Saturday's 100-yard freestyle to finish in ninth place and garner All-American praise to lead #25 Middlebury during the final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships from the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In the morning's preliminary swim, Anna McGrew lowered the program record in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 50.69 seconds. The sophomore led the field to the wall in the consolation final, becoming the first woman in school history to eclipse 50 seconds in the event with a clocking of 49.84. She touched one-tenth of a second ahead of Hope's Laurel Wasiniak to take the heat.
- Isla Johnston competed in the meet's longest event later in the first session. She finished with the ninth-quickest clocking in the morning's 1,650 free, recording an effort of 17:20.93. With the top-eight seeded swimmers opening the evening session, Johnston's time was good for 17th place in the final standings.
NOTES
- McGrew ends her season with a trio of All-American laurels. She was fourth during Wednesday's 50 free with a time of 22.98 seconds.
- The quartet of Hannah Baumgartner, McGrew, Johnston and Lauren Jolley clocked a time of 7:35.03 to claim 15th and All-American accolades.
- The Panthers accumulated 28 points for 20th place, marking the highest since the program was 18th in 2017.
New York University (NYU) claimed the team championship with 517 points, followed by Emory (433.5 points) and Kenyon (380 points).
