Panther Women Fare Well in ITA Regional Championship

The Middlebury women's tennis team had several players fare well during the 2018 ITA New England Regional hosted by Williams. Action took place on the Torrence M. Hunt Tournament Courts.

In the main singles draw, Christina Puccinelli advanced to the round of 16 in the bracket of 64. The sixth-seeded Panther advanced to that point via straight-set victories Friday over Amherst's Margaret Owensby (7-5, 6-1) and Brandeis' Olivia Leavitt (6-1, 7-5). On Saturday, she fell to ninth-seeded Viktoriya Tabunshchyk of MIT by scores of 6-2, 6-3.

Ruhi Kamdar grabbed an opening-round win (6-0, 6-1) over Anne Carsey from Gordon before losing in the round of 32 to Bowdoin's Devon Wolfe (6-0, 6-3).

In doubles play that consisted of 32 teams, Puccinelli and Ann Martin Skelly played their way into the quarterfinals. The fifth-seeded duo earned an 8-4 win over Libby Chang and Michelle Shen from Wellesley in their first-round match, followed by an 8-5 triumph against Colby's Carly Levitz and Olivia Scordo in round two. In the quarterfinal round, Puccinelli and Skelly were edged by top-seeded Victoria Yu and Kristina Yu from Wesleyan, 8-5.

The Panthers have two weeks off from action before they host the Middlebury Invitational from October 12-14.
