Hughes & Boehm End Seasons in NCAA Singles Quarterfinals

During day two of the NCAA Singles Tournament on Friday, Heather Boehm and Katherine Hughes both fell in straight sets during the quarterfinal round. Matches were held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.

Boehm lost to top-seeded and three-time defending champion Eudice Chong of Wesleyan by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Boehm started her tournament on Thursday with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Emory's Bridget Harding, the tournament's No. 8 seed. During the round of 16, Boehm cruised by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Nicole Tan (6-0, 6-2). Friday's setback snapped Boehm's 26-match winning streak dating back to the fall. She finishes the year with a 29-3 record and ranked 12th in the ITA's northeast region.

Hughes lost by set scores of 6-2 and 6-3 to Wesleyan's Victoria Yu. The Panther won her first-round match on Thursday against second-seeded Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), followed by a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Lindsay Brown from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the round of 16. Hughes, the region's 11th-ranked player, concludes her season with a 20-13 mark.
