The Middlebury women's tennis team began its NESCAC weekend trip in Maine with a 9-0 victory Friday afternoon over Colby (8-5, 1-4) on the Alfond-Wales Courts. Middlebury (7-3, 4-0) returns to action on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. match at Bowdoin.
The visitors started things by notching all three points during doubles play. The No. 1 tandem of Skylar Schossberger and Katherine Hughes posted an 8-0 victory over Gabriela Venditti and Lydia Venditti. The Panther team of Alexandra Fields and Christina Puccinelli followed suit with an 8-0 win in the third flight against Aleks Piibe and Emily Dyckman, while the No. 2 pair of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye were victorious 8-3 over Maddie Lupone and Jamie Pine.
In singles, the Panthers surrendered just seven games in the six straight-set wins. Blazye breezed by Piibe at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0). Fields clinched the match atop the lineup with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Lydia Venditti, while Schossberger eased to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in the sixth spot against Annie Morris.
Heather Boehm was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Maddie Lupone at No. 3, while Molly Paradies recorded a 6-0, 6-2 triumph in the fifth spot against Pine. Puccinelli completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Gabriela Venditti at No. 2.
