The Middlebury women's tennis team opened its 2016-17 season by taking part in the annual Lindsay Morehouse Invitational hosted by Williams. During the two-day event, individuals from Middlebury, RPI, Skidmore and Williams squared off in singles and doubles matches. No overall tournament winner was crowned at the end of the Invitational, rather the tournament is meant to celebrate the kickoff of the fall tennis season.
During the first day of singles play, Lily Bondy highlighted play with a pair of victories. Also picking up wins were Alexandra Fields, Katherine Hughes, Heather Boehm, Molly Paradies, Kaysee Orozco, Catherine Blazye and Skylar Schossberger.
In doubles action, the team of Paradies and Boehm went 2-0 on day one, while the tandems of Schossberger and Christina Puccinelli along with Orozco and Blazye both went 1-1.
Several Panthers claimed singles wins on day two including Puccinelli, Paradies, Hughes, Blazye and Schossberger.
The doubles pair of Fields and Schossberger were victorious twice on Sunday, while the duos of Paradies and Boehm as well as Puccinelli and Orozco also tallied a victory.
The Panthers return to the courts next weekend when they take part in the three-day ITA Championships hosted by MIT from September 23-25.
