Box Score 2 The Middlebury softball team dropped both ends of NESCAC West doubleheader at Williams on Saturday, falling 3-2 in nine innings in the opening game and 11-3 in six in the nightcap. The twin bill wrapped up the regular season for the Panthers, finishing with a record of 21-11 and 5-7 in conference play.
The 23rd-ranked Ephs (29-8, 10-2) opened the scoring during the first game in the bottom of fourth with a solo home run by Priscilla Pino.
Middlebury came right back in its next at bat on a RBI ground out by Sarah Freyre, scoring Ande Troutman. Troutman came into the game as a pinch runner for Erin Giles, who doubled to left center.
Kacey Cramer put Williams back in front (2-1) with a RBI single up the middle to score Ashley Wirth.
Freyre came up with another clutch RBI in the top of the seventh, recording a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Emma Hamilton who singled.
The hosts won the game in the last of the ninth on a walk-off homer by Mackenzie Murphy for the 3-2 victory.
Giles finished the opening game going 2-4 at the plate with a double, while Freyre drove in both runs.
In the circle, Allison Quigley tossed the first four innings and gave up one run on three hits. Irene Margiotta yielded one run in the next three innings, while Neve Stearns (5-6) took the loss, allowing one run in an inning of work.
Pino and Murphy each finished with two hits, including solo home runs to lead Williams at the plate. Murphy (12-3) also pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
In the second game, the hosts plated a pair of runs in the first, while the Panthers got on the scoreboard with a run in the third. Middlebury's run came when Hamilton doubled, extending her hitting streak to 20 games, and scored on an error.
Williams scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings, increasing the lead to 6-1, while Middlebury plated a pair in the sixth. Giles singled to right field, bringing home both Carlyn Vachow and Taylor Gardner, cutting the gap to 6-3.
The Ephs tallied five runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game, with Margo Beck delivering a two-run home run in the frame.
For the Panthers, Jackie Stern, Hamilton, Giles, Vachow and Ali Della Volpe each recorded hits, while Quigley (9-3) took the loss in the circle, throwing a third of an inning.
At the plate for the Ephs, Erica Li went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Beck and Cramer each homered.
Brooke Bovier pitched a complete game, giving up only one earned run on five hits.
