Carroll, Fleming, Scholes and Westphal logged recognition from College Sports Communicators.
Kristyn Carroll, Olivia Fleming, Olivia Scholes and Jen Westphal of the #25 Middlebury softball team have been named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees.
HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS
- Carroll
- Carroll earns all-district praises for the third year in a row.Â
- The outfielder graduated with a Bachelor of Science in earth and climate sciences this past weekend.
- She had another record-breaking campaign for the Panthers, leading the team in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.500), total bases (116), stolen bases (35), on-base percentage (.537) and slugging percentage (.734).
- Her 79 hits and 53 runs scored each reset the program's single-season records.
- Carroll became the third Panther to be named NESCAC Player of the Year and earned a spot on the conference first team for the fourth consecutive year.
- The outfielder was tabbed to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-region first team and is a three time NESCAC All-Academic honoree.Â
- Fleming
- Fleming tallies her initial CSC Academic All-District award in her first year of eligibility. Â
- The infielder, who is studying earth and climate sciences, finished second on the squad with 31 runs scored and 14 walks.Â
- She posted a .336 batting average alongside 39 hits and 23 runs batted in (RBI).
- The sophomore tied for the team lead in double plays turned (five) and committed just three miscues over 149 chances in the field.
- Fleming earned All-NESCAC Second Team praises and a spot on the NFCA All-Region third team.
- Scholes
- Scholes logged her second all-district distinction.
- Over 45 contests, the architectural studies major tied for the team lead with nine doubles and slotted third in total bases (64).
- Her 141 at-bats are the third-most in a single season.
- The junior paced the team in assists (85) and became the fourth player to surpass 200 in a Middlebury uniform.Â
- Scholes has been named an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and NESCAC All-Academic twice.
- Westphal
- Westphal grabbed her first district accolade and graduated with a degree in economics.
- The senior enjoyed a highlight-filled season, tallying career marks in at-bats (144), hits (42) and RBI (40). Her 40 runs batted in led the team.
- Westphal blasted a two-run home run in the 11th inning to propel the squad to a 7-5 victory over Colby in the conference semifinals. She also scored the game-winning run during Middlebury's 3-2 triumph in eight frames against Bates in the quarterfinal round.
- She earned her first all-conference accolade as a second-team selection and is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree.
The CSC Academic All-American softball selections will be released on Tuesday, June 16.
