The Middlebury women's tennis team took advantage of the College's Fall Break and traveled to Boston, taking part in the Crimson Fall Scramble at Division I Harvard. The two teams played a form of hidden duals with two or three doubles and three to four singles matches taking place in each round. Action took place at the Murr Center.
In the first round of singles, consisting of one set to six games needing to win by two, the Panthers swept Harvard in all three matches. Christina Puccinelli posted a 7-6 (5) win over Nika Besker, Heather Boehm edged Isabel Jasper 7-5 and Maddi Stow tallied a 6-2 victory against Kaelli Thiel. Alexandra Fields picked up a 6-2 victory in round two over Thiel, while Catherine Blazye was a winner in round three 6-3 against Thiel.
During doubles play, which also featured one set played to six games, the opening round saw Lily Bondy and Skylar Schossberger defeat Irene Lu and Natasha Gonzalez (6-4). Blazye teamed with Molly Paradies in round one for a 6-1 victory over Sabrina Xiong and Lexi Milunovich.
Round two had Stow and Blazye post a 7-5 victory against Besker and Jasper, while Puccinelli and Stow were victorious by an identical 7-5 tally in round three against the same Harvard duo.
The Panthers return to the courts this weekend with the annual Middlebury Invitational from Friday to Sunday on Proctor Tennis Courts.
