Box Score The Panther men's soccer team battled Bowdoin (2-2-2, 1-2-2) for 110 minutes Saturday afternoon on Pickard Field, as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The game finished in a scoreless tie with the Panthers (4-1-1, 1-1-1) returning to action Tuesday when they host Hamilton in a NESCAC game at 4:30 p.m.
Connor Keefe had a pair of promising looks in the opening half for Bowdoin, ringing a shot off the left post 10 minutes into action.
Middlebury came out with a promising scoring opportunity in the first three minutes of the second half with a service by Deklan Robinson that was punched out by Bowdoin goalkeeper Stevie Van Siclen. Jeremy Barovick collected the rebound and sent his shot wide right as the game remained scoreless.
Van Siclen denied Middlebury's Greg Conrad of a bid as he made a diving save to preserve the shutout with 25 minutes left to play. Van Siclen came up with another big save for the Polar Bears as Kirk Horton headed the ball on net following a corner kick feed from Adam Glaser in the 81st minute.
Greg Sydor made four stops for the Panthers, including one in each overtime to keep Bowdoin off the board. The clean sheet gives Sydor three shutouts this fall and 11 for his career in 23 matches played. Van Siclen tallied six total stops for the Polar Bears, making one save in overtime. Bowdoin outshot the visitors, 15-11, with both teams taking five corner kicks.
