Middlebury women's tennis player Ria Gerger fell during her quarterfinal match on day two of the NCAA Singles Tournament on Friday. Matches took place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio and the tournament was hosted by Ohio Northern University and the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Gerger, an NCAA quarterfinalist in each of her first three seasons as a Panther, began the tournament as the #2 seed. In Thursday's action, she defeated Bronte Goodhue of Sewanee by set scores of 6-1 and 6-4. In the next round, Gerger dropped the opening set to Megan Tang of Chicago by a 6-1 score, but rebounded for 6-3 win in the second and a 6-1 victory in the decisive set.
On Friday morning, she took to the court against Williams' Juli Raventos, as the Eph grabbed both sets by tallies of 6-1 and 6-2.
This season, Gerger posted a 15-4 record during the spring season after studying abroad last fall. She tallied an 18-9 mark as a sophomore and went 24-7 in her first season as a Panther, giving her a career record of 57-20 going into her senior year.
