Box Score 2 The Middlebury softball team concluded its trip to Clermont, Florida with an overall record of 7-3. The Panthers finished up play on Thursday, splitting a pair of contests. Middlebury downed Wisconsin-Oshkosh 6-4 in eight innings, before falling 7-2 to Elmhurst in its second game of the day. The Panthers return north to visit Wesleyan for a three game series on Saturday and Sunday.
UW-Oshkosh led 3-1 before Middlebury scored twice in the top of the sixth. Hye-Jin Kim reached on an error before Kat Maehr plated her with a two-run blast to left field to knot the game at 3-3. In the top of the eighth with the international tie-breaker rule in effort, Kim was placed on second base. A walk by Taylor Gardner and a single up the middle by Allison Quigley loaded the bases. Sarah Freyre reach on a fielder's choice to drive in Kim before a single to right center by Kelsey Martel plated two more runs to put the Panthers up 6-3. UW-Oshkosh scored one in the bottom of the inning to make it a 6-4 final.
Neve Stearns moved to 3-0 on the season with five innings of relief, allowing just three hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts. Gardner went 3-3 in the game with two runs scored, while Quigley was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Martel also had a pair of hits in the contest.
Freyre doubled and was driven in on an RBI single from Christina Bicks to tie the game at 1-1 against Elmhurst in the top of the second. The home team responded with three in the second and two in the fourth for a 6-1 lead. Middlebury got a run back in the fifth as a sacrifice fly from Quigley drove in Gardner. Elmhurst added a run in the sixth for the 7-2 win
Quigley suffered the loss, as Middlebury picked up 10 hits at the plate. Kim and Ali Della Volpe each had two hits on the day, while Freyre doubled.
