Box Score Adam Glaser scored 5:02 into over to lift Middlebury (12-2-1, 7-2-1) to a 1-0 victory over Williams (7-6-2, 4-5-1) in the regular-season finale for both squads. The Panthers have clinched the second seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will host an opponent to be determined in a match-up this Saturday. Glaser's 28 points in 2015 are the fifth-most in a single season at Middlebury, while his 71 career point place him fifth on the school's all-time list.
Kyle Moffat, who entered the game with 3:30 remaining in the second half, set up the game winner. Glaser fed Moffat at midfield before he raced toward the Williams' net. Eph goalkeeper Christian Alcorn came out to challenge, as Moffat quickly sent the ball to the left side where Glaser one-touched it into the back of the open net from a tough angle.
Glaser had a good look in the early going as his low, hard bender was denied by a diving save from Alcorn in the 12th minute. JC Bahr de Stefano almost made the Panthers pay for a turnover in the 17th minute, but his blast from 18 yards out went just wide.
Middlebury's Deklan Robinson got a good head on a corner kick off the foot of Glaser in the 39th minute, but it went just high over the crossbar. The Panthers controlled much of the pace in the first half, holding a 6-2 advantage in shots.
Williams turned up the pressure in the second half, with its best chance to score coming just three minutes in. Troy Ritter skipped a pass to Kevin Mercadante, who was just 10 yards out. His quick swing at the ball sent a shot toward goal that hit the crossbar and caromed away. Panther keeper Greg Sydor kept the Ephs off the board in the 60th minute, making a diving saw on a low, hard shot by Malcolm Moutenot.
The Panthers nearly ended the contest two minutes into overtime as Greg Conrad beat Alcorn to the ball at the 18, but his quickly-forced chip at an open net went just wide right.
Middlebury finished the game with a 13-9 edge in shots, with each team taking five corner kicks. Sydor made five saves in goal to pick up his sixth shutout of the season and 14th of his career. Alcorn turned away four shots on the other end of the field.
