Box Score The Middlebury women's basketball team fell on the road Tuesday evening to Plattsburgh State inside Memorial Hall by a score of 79-58. The Panthers (7-4) play for the first time at home in 2015 when they open NESCAC play Friday against Bates at 7:00 p.m.
The Cardinals jumped on the board early when Brittany Marshall and Jax Miller stepped beyond the arc and made three-point field goals in the first 49 seconds to stake Plattsburgh State to a quick 6-0 lead. Middlebury battled back for its only lead of the night when Rachel Crews recorded five points as part of a 7-0 Panther run over a two-minute span.
Plattsburgh State's Stephanie Linder netted the next five points on a deep jumper and a three-pointer. The Panthers answered when Elizabeth Knox scored four points on back-to-back possessions and knotted the game at 11-11 with 13:33 to go in the opening stanza.
From that point, the hosts went on a 15-2 run over the next 6:31, taking a 26-13 lead with 7:02 remaining in the first half.
Plattsburgh State's Yazmin Lewis connected on a pair of jumpers, pushing Plattsburgh State's lead to 32-17. With just seven seconds remaining in the half, Misha Green converted on a layup, giving the hosts a 40-22 lead heading into the break.
Out of the intermission, the Cardinals pushed their lead to 20 and from that point on, the advantage dipped below that mark just twice. In the second half, Plattsburgh State scorched the nets by hitting 55.6-percent (15-for-27) of its field goals.
Marshall led all scorers with 25 points and dished out a game-best 10 assists. Plattsburgh State forced Middlebury into 20 turnovers and limited the Panthers to 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field.
Linder and Devona Paul added 12 points each for the Cardinals, while Green grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Four different players netted 11 points for the Panthers, while Sarah Kaufman added a team-best eight rebounds and Knox handed out six assists.
