The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team cruised past host Westmont by an 8-1 score Thursday afternoon in California. The Panther women conclude their spring trip with a Friday match in Carpenteria against 12th-ranked University of Chicago at 11:00 a.m.
In doubles, Middlebury claimed all three points. The duo of Lauren Amos and Margot Marchese were the first to finish at second doubles, cruising to an 8-3 win over Jessica Cedillo and Haley Strandness. In the third match, the tandem of Jennifer Sundstrom and Alexandra Fields breezed past Fernanda Rivera and Grace Davis by an 8-2 tally.
The Panther duo of Kaysee Orozco and Ria Gerger completed the Middlebury sweep with an 8-6 victory in the top flight over Lauren Stratman and Kate Stratman, the NAIA's third-ranked doubles team.
During singles play, Orozco blanked Strandness at #2 (6-0, 6-0), while Dorrie Paradies took down Emily Keach in the fourth match by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Marchese was the next to finish, downing Davis in the third spot in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). Sadie Shackelford completed her match with a win over Rivera at #6 (6-1, 6-0), while Amos defeated Alyson Meyer at #5 (6-4, 6-1).
The Warriors grabbed their lone point of the match in the top singles slot. Lauren Stratman, ranked sixth nationally as an NAIA individual, defeated Gerger in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 11-9).
