Box Score Elizabeth Knox scored a career-high 29 points as the Panther women's basketball team opened up its season with a 67-46 win over Endicott at the Tyler Tip-Off Basketball Tournament hosted by Smith. Middlebury returns to action on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the title game against the host Pioneers. The victory was the first at Middlebury for first-year Panther head coach K.J. Krasco.
Middlebury came out charging, taking a 14-0 lead in the game's first 5:36 behind six points from Knox. Endicott cut the lead to seven late in the first half, but the Panthers responded with a 7-1 run to close the opening session and took a 30-17 lead into the intermission.
The lead remained in double digits, with Endicott cutting the margin to 43-30 with 10:10 remaining. Middlebury again answered with a quick 6-0 spurt to up its lead to 19. The lead grew to a game-high 25 points on two different occasions, as the Panthers emerged with a 67-46 win.
Knox went 11-17 from the floor and added five rebounds in the win. Sarah Kaufman scored 10 points and earned 10 rebounds, while Sabrina Weeks netted eight with 10 boards. Alexis Coolidge added eight points with five assists, while Rachel Crews pulled down eight boards. The Panther defense held Endicott to just 22.5% shooting from the floor.
Endicott was paced by 11 from Hannah Shaw and 10 from Kayleen Whall.
