The Middlebury women's tennis team dropped its first home match of the spring, falling 7-2 to third-ranked Emory. The ninth-ranked Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Wesleyan.
Middlebury trailed early, dropping all three doubles matches. In singles play, the Panthers earned wins at #1 and #2 singles, dropping the other four matches as all six singles contests were decided in straight sets.
At #1 singles, Lok-Sze Leung earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gabbie Clark in a battle of the top two ranked players in the country. Second-ranked Leung avenges a loss a year ago to Clark, as well as the NCAA Championship match last spring. Leung won the first-ever match between the two, picking up a victory in the fall of '11 in the ITA singles championship. Ria Gerger was Middlebury's other victor, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win at #1.
