Panthers Fourth At St. Lawrence Carnival

Middlebury finished in fourth place overall at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Vermont (1013) won the event, followed by Dartmouth (789), UNH (748) and the Panthers (701). The Middlebury men's alpine team won the slalom event, while placing second in the GS.

David Donaldson won the giant slalom for the second straight week, finishing with a time of 1:58.14. Just two spots back in third place was teammate Andrew McNealus, who came in with a time of 1:59.57. Bryan Shpall finished the race in 17th place for the Panthers in 2:02.07.

The following day, Donaldson completed the weekend sweep, taking the slalom race in 1:21.98. The Panthers finished with three in the top eight as McNealus came in seventh (1:23.63) and Roberts finished eighth (1:23.76).

Kara Shaw paced the alpine women with a 13th place finish in 2:07.36. Placing 18th in the race was Yina Moe-Lange (2:08.54), followed by Katelyn Barclay in 22nd.

Kerry Daigle led the women in the slalom with a 20th place finish with a time of 1:34.08. Shaw finished the race in 26th (1:35.06), while Katelyn Barclay was one spot behind in 27th (1:35.22).

The opening nordic event of the carnival circuit saw Ben Lustgarten pace the Panther men with a seventh place finish (48:43) in the 20K freestyle race. Austin Cobb finished the event in 17th place (50:25), followed by Dylan McGarthwaite in 27th (51:27).

Kelsey Phinney placed fourth for the Middlebury women, covering the 15K race in 43:23. Coming in 17th place was Kaitlin Fink in 44:06, followed by Issy Pelletier in 22nd (44:45).

On day two of nordic racing, McGarthwaite paced the Panther men in the 3K prologue freestyle event, coming in seventh place overall in 8:08.9. Lustgarten was next in 15th place (8:13.6), followed by Cobb in 24th (8:20.6).

The women's top three finishers consisted of Pelletier, Phinney and Keely Levins. Pelletier paced the group in 13th (9:34.7), Phinney was two spots back in 15th (9:35.6), while Levins was 20th (9:44).
