Rachel Noall singled in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh and Alyssa Wolejko pitched a five hitter to lead the Union College softball team to a 3-2 win over Middlebury College in Game 1 at Alexander Field Tuesday. The Panthers erased a 4-1 lead to come back for a 6-4 win in the nightcap. Union is now 16-22 after the final home date of the season, while Middlebury stands 26-6 after the non-league games.

With two out and Amanda Blake on second, Noall singled to center to give Union a third straight final at bat win. Wolejko won for the 10th time in her rookie season, and won her seventh straight decision. She struck out five and walked two in the complete game victory.

Union had just four hits in the game. Elizabeth Morris took the loss, as she entered the seventh looking for her fourth save. It was her first loss in 10 decisions. Ali McAnaney gave up three hits and struck out one in her six innings. Megan Margel and Emily Burbidge had two hits each for the Panthers.

Emma Katz gave the guests a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI double, but Union made it 2-1 with a two run single by Alicia Jones in the bottom of the second. Margel led off the sixth with a double, and after two outs, Burbidge drove her home with a double off the fence in center to tie it at 2-2. Amanda Blake was hit by a pitch to lead off the Union seventh, and was bunted to second. After a strikeout, Noall won it for Union.

In the nightcap, Morris improved to 10-1 with two innings of no hit ball featuring three strikeouts. Amanda Blake gave up nine Middlebury hits in her seven innings of work, allowing four earned runs and striking out one. Jessica Poracky had an RBI single in the first for a 1-0 Panther advantage. Union tied it with a leadoff homer by Blake, her second of the year, in the third inning. Union had three in the fifth including a two run home run by Nina Cervini, her first of the season, and it was 4-1 entering the sixth. But in that frame, Middlebury batted around and tied it with a two run single by Sarah Boylan followed by an RBI double by Nellie Wood. The Panthers got a big two out, two RBI double by Burbidge for the eventual 6-4 final. Hoffman and Boylan had two hits each for the visitors.
