Women's Tennis

Play Complete At Gail Smith Doubles Tourney

The Middlebury College women's tennis team hosted the fourth annual Gail Smith Doubles Tournament on campus. Thirty doubles teams from five different schools competed in the tournament, honoring long-time Middlebury coach and administrator Gail Smith.

Women's duos from Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Rochester and Skidmore took part in the tournament, as well as some open duos. Eight round-robin draws were held, several of them boasting the names of former Panther women's tennis coaches. One team emerged from each draw into the championship round, while the other squads continued round-robin play all weekend.

Sophomores Brittney Faber (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Leah Kepping (Northport, N.Y.) were Middlebury's top duo, emerging from the "Jackie Ross" draw and into the championship round of eight. The duo earned 8-5 and 9-7 wins over duos from Amherst, before falling in the finals to Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin of Amherst, 8-1. The pair from Amherst also topped the Middlebury duo in the ITA Regional semifinals.
