Women's Tennis In Action At Eastern's

The Middlebury College women's tennis team competed at the Eastern Championships hosted by Army. The tournament consisted of mostly Division I teams, with some Division II and III schools also competing. Several consolation-type brackets were also held, giving players a chance for a lot of quality match experience.

In singles play, first-year player Brittney Faber (Minnetonka, Minn.) had success in the second singles bracket. The Middlebury rookie won her first match 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 over the seventh seeded player in the bracket from Duquesne. She then came from a set down to earn a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over her opponent from Niagra, before falling 6-1, 6-3 to the second seeded player in the bracket from Farleigh Dickinson. Sophomore Victoria Aiello (Milton, Mass.) won her first match in the first singles bracket 6-1, 6-2, before falling in the round of 16 to the fourth seeded player from Cornell, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

In doubles play, senior Annie Weinberg (Greenwich, Conn.) and rookie Leah Kepping (Northport, N.Y.) knocked off the fifth-seeded team from West Virginia 8-6 in the first round, before falling in the round of 16, 8-2.
