Play Complete At Women's Tennis Doubles Tourney

The Middlebury College women's tennis team hosted the third annual Gail Smith Doubles Tournament on campus. Thirty-three doubles teams from six different schools competed in the tournament, honoring long-time Middlebury coach and administrator Gail Smith. Women's duos from Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Brandeis, Skidmore and Middlebury took part in the tournament, as well as some open duos. Eight round-robin draws were held, several of them boasting the names of former Panther women's tennis coaches. One team emerged from each draw into the championship round, while the other squads continued round-robin play all weekend.

The Middlebury doubles duo of sophomores Victoria Aiello (Milton, Mass.) and Anna Burke (Summit, N.J.) enjoyed the most success in the tourney, advancing to the championship round. The two went 3-0 in their draw, earning 8-0, 8-6 and 8-4 wins. They were eventually eliminated in the quarterfinals by a pair from Amherst, falling 8-4.
