The Middlebury and Hamilton softball teams ended their seasons today as they each picked up a win in a doubleheader. The Panthers earned a come-from-behind 4-3 win in game one, while the Continentals came back with an 8-1 win in the second contest. Middlebury ends its season at 14-20, while Hamilton finishes with a 12-15 record.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one as Leslie Crawford singled down the left field line and was bunted to second by Emily Burbridge. Crawford advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single through the right side by Megan Margel.
Hamilton struck for three unearned runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning. Ashley White scored on a wild pitch, while a pair of runs scored on an outfield error.
Middlebury rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs on four hits. Burbridge and Carlie Crawford reached on singles with one out, before Margel plated Burbridge with a single to make it a 3-2 game. Allison Bard reached on an error to load the bases for Brittany Burke, who singled up the middle to plate Margel and C. Crawford and give Middlebury a 4-3 win.
Geena Constantin earned the win, allowing no earned runs over seven innings of work, while going 3-4. C. Crawford had a 3-4 game, while Margel went 2-4 with a pair of RBI. Amber O'Connor was 3-3 with a double to pace Hamilton, while Erin Hoener went 2-3.
Hamilton struck for a pair in the first inning of game two, as an RBI single to left by Liz Farrington and an RBI ground out by Elizabeth Reid plated the two runs.
The Continentals broke the game open in the fourth, with six unearned runs on six hits, courtesy of a pair of Middlebury errors. O'Connor, Farrington and Jen Sadowsky each doubled in the inning for Hamilton, each earning an RBI with Sadowsky driving in a pair.
Middlebury extended the game with a run in the fourth as Burke singled and later scored on a double to left center by L. Crawford.
Hoener earned the win in relief, allowing no runs and two hits over 3 2/3 innings of work. Farrington went 2-4 with a double and two RBI for Hamilton, while O'Connor was 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Ali McAnaney took the loss for Middlebury, despite allowing just one earned run over 3 2/3 innings. L. Crawford was 2-3 in the game with a double.
