Middlebury opened up its home and NESCAC season with a two-game sweep of Hamilton. The Panthers picked up a 12-6 win in game one before taking the second contest, 5-2. Middlebury returns to action on April 6th when they host Norwich at 3:00 p.m.
In the first game, five Hamilton errors led to seven unearned runs as Middlebury came away with the 12-6 win. Trailing 3-0, the Panthers struck for six runs in the second inning and four in the fourth on their way to the victory. A two-run single by Maura Casey sparked the second inning, while an error led to the three unearned runs in the third. Tory Glowacky went 2-4 in the game, while Casey, Lauren Battaglia, Jennifer Williams and Katie Hurd each scored a pair of runs. Williams earned the win, striking out five over seven innings of work. Amber O'Connor paced Hamilton, going 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Robin Brown was 3-4. Megan Coughlin took the loss, allowing five earned runs over six innings of work.
A two-run double in the fifth by Battaglia broke up a 2-2 game and gave Middlebury a 4-2 advantage in game two. The Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double from Casey. Hurd went 3-3 in the contest, while Casey and Amelia Magistrali each went 2-3 with a runs cored and an RBI. Katelyn Cannella was 1-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base in the game. Brittany Burke earned the win, allowing one earned run and striking out five Hamilton batters.
O'Connor again led the Continentals, going 2-3 with a run scored, while Caitlin McCormick and Kate Riester each had an RBI double. Coughlin suffered the loss, allowing five runs and 10 hits.
