Roche Wins ITA Singles Title

Junior Amy Roche (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) captured the ITA singles championship this weekend at Bowdoin College. The 64-person bracket featured the top-ranked players in New England, with the defending NESCAC Champion going 6-0 en route to the tournament singles title.

Roche won all six of her matches convincingly, losing just nine of 85 games over the weekend. In the title match, Roche came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win. With the win, Roche earned herself an automatic bid to the 2005 ITA National Small College Championships, which is scheduled for October 13-16th, 2005 at Florida Gulf Coast University, in Fort Myers, Florida.

In others singles action, first-year player Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.) picked up three wins and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Roche and Emery advanced all the way to the finals, dropping an 8-6 contest in the title match.
