In a rematch of last year's NESCAC Championship, Middlebury met Williams today in the season-opening NESCAC games for both teams. Both games would need extra innings as the Panthers pulled out a 4-3 nine inning win in game one, before falling 2-0 in eight innings in game two.

Middlebury took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on a pair of unearned runs. Following an error, Kathryn Hurd tripled in Colleen Sullivan to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Katelyn Cannella followed with a single to drive in Hurd to make it a 2-0 game.

Williams tied the game in the fifth, with a two run double to left by Laura Noel. The game remained at 2-2 until the top of the eighth when an RBI double from Mary Baccash scored Kristen Lemons to give the Ephs a 3-2 lead. Middlebury came back in the bottom of the inning as a single up the middle by Lauren Battaglia plated Lauren Guza to knot the game at three.

After holding Williams in the ninth, Middlebury rallied in the bottom of the inning as Guza singled in Hurd for the game-winner with two outs.

Guza ended the game with a pair of hits, as did Battaglia and Cannella. McCarthy earned the win, striking out seven over nine innings of work. Alana Frost had a pair of hits for Williams, while Noel drove in two.

The Middlebury bats were silenced in game two, as Clara Hard threw an eight-inning no-hitter to earn the win. Jennifer Williams kept the Ephs off the board through seven innings, but gave up a pair of runs in the eighth to take the loss. A pinch-hit double by Taryn Goodman, followed by a two-run homer over the left field fence by Alan Frost would be all the Ephs would need to earn the win.
