Softball Sweeps Wesleyan

Middlebury improved to 5-1 in NESCAC play as they swept a doubleheader at Wesleyan. The pair of wins gives the Panthers four NESCAC road wins in two days as they move to 11-7 overall.

Jennifer Williams threw a three-hit shutout in game one as the Panthers picked up a 5-0 win. Leading 1-0 in the third, Lauren Guza doubled in a run to make it a 2-0 game. The Panthers added three runs in the fifth as Lauren Battaglia smacked a two-run double to left before Colleen Sullivan had an RBI single to right to end the scoring. Guza went 3-3 in the game, while Sullivan had a pair of hits.

More of the same in game two for Williams, as she threw the complete game, allowing just two earned runs in a 3-2 win. The pitcher helped her own cause in the second inning, with a two-run single. A bunt single by Kathryn Hurd gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead after three innings. Wesleyan battled back, plating a pair of runs in the sixth inning to make it a 3-2 game. Neither team would score in the seventh as the Panthers held on for the win. Guza picked up two hits in game two, as did Sullivan and Hurd.
