The Panther women's tennis team played a pair of matches last week, falling at Division I UMass. 6-1, before defeating Tufts 7-2.
At UMass., Middlebury was swept in singles play, while winning two of three doubles matches. Junior Amy Roche (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and first-year player Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.) were 8-4 winners, while sophomore Amy Berkman (Shelburne, Vt.) and rookie Clare Burke (Summit, N.J.) were 8-3 victors.
Middlebury won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests against Tufts. Roche was a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 winner, sophomore Amanda Berck (Roslyn, N.Y.) picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while junior Emily Holick (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win. Emery won her match 6-1, 6-2, while Berkman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner. In doubles play, Roche/Emery won 8-2, while Holick/Berck were 8-6 winners.
