1/9/05 - The Middlebury College women's swimming and diving team opened up the second semester on the right foot as they  picked up a pair of wins over Colby and Bates at the Middlebury College Natatorium. The women defeated Colby by a score of 155-115, while topping Bates 162-130.

First-year swimmer Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) had another big weekend as she won four events. Her biggest was the 200 fly win against Bates, where her time of 2:06.26 was a school record, pool record, and an NCAA "A" cut. Ross also set a pair of pool records against Colby in the 400 IM and the 100 fly. She finished with a time of 58.05 in the fly, while her time of 4:37.94 in the IM was also a school record. Ross' other win over the weekend was in the 100 free with a time of 54.27 against Colby.

Winning three events was junior McKenna Moreau (Canton, N.Y.). After winning the 100 back in 1:03.68 against Colby, she came back to win a pair of events the next day against Bates. Moreau won the 100 back in 1:03.58, while winning the 200 back in 2:17.51.

Also winning three events was sophomore Barbara Van der Veer (Pittsburgh, Pa.). She won the 50 free in 24.97 against Colby, while earning a time of 25.37 in the win against Bates. The sophomore was also a victor in the 100 free against Bates with a time of 55.12.

The other dual event winner on the weekend for the women was first-year racer Sara Cowie (N. Palm Beach, Fla.). Cowie won the 500 free in both races, with a time of 5:11.09 against Bates and 5:11.67 against Colby.
