Softball Team Splits At Williams

The Middlebury College softball team earned a solid weekend split on the road as they defeated Williams 1-0 in 11 innings, before dropping game two, 4-1.

Junior Megan McCarthy (Winter Springs, Fla.) was stellar in game one, throwing all 11 innings, allowing just four hits and no runs, while striking out five Ephs. The scoreless battle saw Middlebury's sophomore Lauren Battaglia (Framingham, Mass.) single in sophomore Kathryn Hurd (Fairfield, Conn.) in the top of the 11th to give the team a 1-0 lead. McCarthy held them in the bottom of the inning to earn the win. Hurd ended the game 3-4, while Battaglia and senior Michaela George (Ross, Calif.) had two hits apiece.

In game two, the Panthers scored in the first inning with an RBI from senior Christina Freyer (Denver, Colo.), driving in junior Lauren Guza (La Canada, Calif.). The Ephs answered with two in the bottom of the first and then added solo runs in the fourth and fifth to seal the 4-1 win. Guza ended the day with a pair of hits to lead Middlebury.
