Women's Swimmers Host Amherst

12/4/04 - The Panther women's swimming and diving team hosted their first meet of the season as they fell to Amherst, 140-103.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

First-year racer Sara Cowie (<?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />N. Palm Beach, Fla.) paced the women's team as she won a pair of events on the afternoon. Cowie earned a win in the 1000 free in 10:38.13, while finishing first in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.85. First-year swimmer Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) won the 200 fly, setting a new pool record with a time of 2:08.12, while senior Tessa Truex (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the three-meter diving event with 252.30 points. Middlebury's other winners were a part of the 400 freestyle relay team that set a new pool record with a time of 3:37.49. The team was comprised of Ross, first-year swimmer Katie Chambers (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), and sophomores Barbara Van der Veer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Liz Rice (New Canaan, Conn.).
