#1 Panthers Pick Up 8-1 Victory Against Nor’Easters

The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team scored early in the opening frame and never looked back en route to an 8-1 victory at the University of New England. The squad improves to 10-0 on the year and continues its unbeaten streak of 41-straight wins.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Getting things going for the Panthers was Claire McMichael, finding the back of the cage with 3:17 elapsed for her first tally of the season.
  • Just over two minutes later, Lilly Branka extended the Middlebury advantage (2-0) with a goal following a penalty corner insert by Caroline Segal.
  • Segal went one-on-one with Nor'Easter goalie Dawn DeWeese-Moss, slipping her shot inside the cage to make it 3-0 with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
  • With 18:03 expired, an initial bid by Caroline Haggerty was thwarted by DeWeese-Moss, but Segal was there tap the rebound home for the 4-0 lead.
  • Katherine Lantzy made it 5-0 at the 33:48 mark. Segal inserted a penalty corner that Amy Griffin stopped, and Lantzy rifled her shot past DeWeese-Moss from the top of the circle.
  • The Panthers took a 6-0 advantage with 39:39 elapsed when Georgianne Defeo tallied her team-leading 13th goal following a corner.
  • Late in the fourth stanza, Middlebury tacked on a pair of tallies three minutes apart, with one coming Madaket Rzepka and one from Shawna Ferraro.
  • The University of New England spoiled the shutout with just 28 seconds remaining following a penalty corner. Lily Clough wound up at the top of the circle and blasted the ball past goalie Madeline DiLemme for the 8-1 final score.
