Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#1 Field Hockey Downs #17 Hamilton 6-0

The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and did not look back, downing #17 Hamilton 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury grabbed the lead after only 2:46 of action. Following a penalty corner, Sadie LeStage slipped a pass to Amy Griffin on the right side who blasted a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
  • With just over five minutes elapsed, the Panthers struck again. The second goal replicated the first, as LeStage set up Griffin for a long strike that beat Continental goalie Abby Griffin.
  • Middlebury continued to use the penalty corner to great effect in the initial quarter. At the 8:02 mark, Lilly Branka found Charlotte Marks, who fired a drive from the top of the arc to make it 3-0.
  • The Panthers nearly scored their fourth tally 1:40 into the second quarter. Katie George broke away from the defense and fired a shot on target, but a brilliant defensive save from Grace Chapis denied the bid.
  • At the 18:07 mark, the Panthers did make it 4-0. LeStage dribbled past multiple defenders on the right side and centered a pass to Audrey Lazar whose redirection found George on the goal line for the close-range finish.
  • Hamilton's best chance of the half came with 3:32 remaining. Delaney Grace inserted a penalty corner which reached Hannah Dillon. Her shot whistled just wide of the left post to keep the score 4-0 at the halftime break.
  • The Panthers added a fifth marker with 7:40 elapsed in the final stanza. Caroline Segal burst through a group of Continental defenders on the right side of the zone and flipped a shot into the left corner to bring the score to 5-0.
  • Madaket Rzepka pushed the lead to six with 3:14 left to go. Lilly Thieburg fired a nifty pass through the center of midfield which found Rzepka, who calmly slotted the ball past Griffin for the 6-0 final score.
