Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#1 Field Hockey Shuts Out UNE 6-0

The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team completed its three-game opening week sweep with a 6-0 shutout over the University of New England (UNE).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers wasted little time out of the gates, scoring just 1:27 into the contest when Sadie LeStage dribbled past three Nor'Easter defenders and slipped the ball into the right corner of the cage.
  • Middlebury made it 2-0 at the 6:26 mark. Katie George's initial bid was denied by UNE goalie Sawn DeWeese-Moss, but George persisted and deposited the rebound into the goal.
  • After a scramble in front of the cage during the 17th minute, Audrey Lazar tipped in an initial attempt by Amy Griffin to make it 3-0.
  • Lazar carried the ball into the circle past several defenders late in the second frame, before sending a bass to the left pipe where Sarah Bona was waiting. Bona tapped the ball into the goal for the 4-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
  • With 33:18 expired, the Panthers struck again. This time, Caroline Segal rifled a shot through traffic and into the lower-right corner to increase the lead to 5-0.
  • Bona tallied her second marker of the game at the 42:32 mark when she redirected an initial blast by Lilly Thieberg for the 6-0 advantage.
  • Middlebury had back-to-back penalty corners midway through the fourth frame, but DeWeese-Moss denied one chance with a diving save, before using her pad to thwart the second attempt and shut out the Panthers in the final stanza.
NOTES
  • Middlebury pushed its winning streak to 12-conseuctive victories, while keeping opponents off the board for 575:06 minutes.
  • Griffin moved into fifth place on the Panthers' all-time assists list, now owning 29 total.
Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Hamilton for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
