Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Balanced Scoring Leads #1 Middlebury Past the University of New England 4-0

The Middlebury field hockey team scored once in each quarter, downing the University of New England (UNE) 4-0. The Panthers extended their winning-streak to 33-consecutive victories.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury opened the scoring with 6:09 expired in the first stanza when Caroline Haggerty tipped in an initial attempt by Amy Griffin to make it 1-0.
  • The Nor'Easters had a great chance to tie the contest with just under a minute left in the initial quarter. Madi Robito one-timed a centering feed from Lily Clough, but her shot from close range was denied by Panther goalie Grace Harlan.
  • Middlebury doubled its lead just over a minute into the second quarter. Griffin converted her second penalty stroke in as many days, lifting the ball over UNE goalie Lindsay Pych's left shoulder for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Early in the third stanza, the Panthers had quality scoring chances after three-straight penalty corners. The best attempt came on the third corner when Katie George tried to lift the ball past Pych, but Pych batted down the ball to keep Middlebury at bay.
  • George's persistence eventually paid off when she dribbled the ball from deep in the left corner, around the circle and sent a diving shot into the cage for the 3-0 Panther lead.
  • Middlebury tallied its fourth and final goal of the day at the 52:31 mark. Grace Keefe settled a bouncing ball just inside the circle and ripped a shot toward the goal, but Pych thwarted the chance. Ellie Harrison was right there to one time the rebound into the cage to make it 4-0.
  • The Nor'Easters had a chance to deny the Panthers of a shut out with less than a minute remaining, but Middlebury's Thea Rosenzweig denied the attempt to keep the score 4-0.
