Top-Ranked Middlebury Uses Big First Half To Breeze By Colby

The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team scored four goals in each of the first two quarters, cruising to a 10-1 win over Colby. The victory was the program's 40th-consecutive triumph dating back to the 2019 season.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers raced to a quick three-goal lead, scoring a trio of goals in the opening 7:21 of play. Amy Griffin scored a pair of goals during the spurt, including a penalty-stroke score with 7:21 elapsed. Griffin is a perfect 3-3 this season in strokes.
  • Hanna Medwar gave Middlebury a 4-0 lead with 1:08 left in the first quarter, tucking a shot inside the right post.
  • Katie George pushed the lead to 5-0 just 3:59 into the second quarter, firing a shot inside the left post.
  • Griffin completed her second hat trick in as many games just 1:24 later, ripping a shot that slipped into the left corner. 
  • Goals by Caroline Segal and Medwar gave the Panthers an 8-0 advantage headed to the halftime break.
  • Georgianne Defeo increased the Middlebury lead to 9-0 just 41 seconds into the third quarter, collecting a rebound and lifting the ball into the right side of the cage.
  • Colby tallied its goal 9:20 into the third stanza, as Charlotte Epker tipped in a pass from right by Elizabeth Takoudes.
  • Ellie Hughes concluded the scoring for the Panthers, tucking in a shot from the right with 9:05 gone in the fourth quarter for the final 10-1 score.
 
NOTES
  • Griffin has 12 points over the last two games with a pair of three-goal efforts in each contest.
  • Griffin leads the NESCAC with 31 points (12G, 7A) and goals. She has recorded at least one point in six-consecutive games.
  • The Panthers increased their home winning streak to 49 straight with the triumph.
  • Middlebury picked up its 39th win in 40 meetings with the Mules, including the last 26.
