The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team concluded its regular season on a high note, utilizing strong singles play during a 6-3 road win at No. 8 Amherst (10-8, 4-4). With the triumph, the Panthers have won six-straight matches and improve to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in the NESCAC. Middlebury returns to the courts next weekend at the NESCAC Championships hosted by the Mammoths.
The hosts grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play on Saturday. In the third spot, the Panther duo of Heather Boehm and Ann Martin Skelly eased by Amherst's Camille Smukler and Maddie Dewire by an 8-2 score for the Panthers' initial point. Amherst took the advantage into individual play behind an 8-5 win at No. 2 and an 8-6 triumph in the top spot.
In singles, the Panthers posted straight-set wins in each of their five victories. Maddi Stow leveled the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Avery Wagman at the bottom of the lineup. Catherine Blazye gave the Panthers for good with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anya Ivenitsky, while Skylar Schossberger made it 4-2 in favor of Middlebury via a 6-1, 7-6 (4) triumph against Dewire.
Boehm tallied her 19th-consecutive singles victory on Saturday, posting a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kelsey Chen at No. 3 to clinch the match. Katherine Hughes made the score 6-2 in favor of the Panthers with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Vickie Ip in the second slot.
The Mammoths recorded the final point of the match with a straight-set win atop the lineup.
