Box Score The Middlebury men's soccer team extended its modest unbeaten streak to five-straight games, as the Panthers posted a 6-0 shutout victory Monday at Utica (4-8-1). Middlebury (5-2-3) returns to NESCAC action Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on the road against Trinity.
For the second-straight contest, Middlebury netted a goal in the opening two minutes of the game. Drew Goulart directed a long chip toward the Pioneer penalty area where Daniel O'Grady touched a shot past goalie Randy Miksch with 1:57 expired.
Middlebury doubled its lead with 28:53 showing on the clock, as Aidan Robinson headed in Goulart's free kick from near the left sideline. The visitors made it a three-goal cushion on a nice passing play from Fazl Shaikh to O'Grady, before Brendan Barry directed a shot into the back-right corner of the net 1:58 before the half.
The Panthers netted their fourth goal just under 15 minutes into the second stanza, taking advantage of a restart. Potter serviced the ball into the area where Kyle Moffat redirected the ball into the net with a leaping one-touch. Robinson added his second of the contest with 15:43 left in regulation knocking in a corner kick, while Jacob LaBranche capped the scoring with his first collegiate tally. LaBranche's score came off a long pass from Davis Oudet with 6:53 remaining.
Middlebury goalie Matthew Hyer finished with one save in 70:24 of action, while Marco Kaper didn't see a shot in the final 19:36. Miksch had a busy game for the Pioneers with 12 stops.
The Panthers carried play throughout, possessing a big 27-1 advantage in shots and took 10-11 of the game's corner kicks.
In the team's last five games, Middlebury is 3-0-2 and has outscored the opposition 16-3 with two shutouts.
