Alpine Teams Struggle at St. Michael's Carnival

It was a rough day on the hill for the Middlebury alpine team, as the Panthers competed at the St. Michael's Carnival with slalom races held at Smuggler's Notch. Vermont came away with the team title amassing 956 points, followed closely by Dartmouth (946), with Middlebury taking home third-place honors (706). Middlebury returns to action next Friday when it travels north to the University of Vermont Carnival.

Both teams struggled on a very challenging course, with just one member of each squad finishing both runs without being forced to hike. Overall, just 40 of the 70 men that competed were able to complete both runs. On the men's side, Erik Arvidsson was impressive in just his second collegiate race, covering the course in 1:40.62, good for seventh place. For the women, Lucia Bailey crossed the line in 12th place during her second career event, earning a two-run time of 1:30.92.

Others earning points for the women were Katie Utter in 31st and Madison Lord in 34th. For the men, Max Stamler was 24th, while Riley Plant came in 33rd.
