Top-seeded Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Championship match for the second-straight year with a 5-2 win Saturday over fifth-seeded Bowdoin (14-5) in a match played indoors at Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink. The Panthers (14-3) will take on second-seeded Williams for the second-consecutive spring, who posted a 5-0 victory over third-seeded Tufts in the other semifinal. The championship match will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Against the Polar Bears, Middlebury grabbed a 2-1 advantage at the conclusion of the doubles matches. The Panthers scored the opening point when the tandem of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye posted an 8-4 win over Bowdoin's Tess Trinka and Tasha Christ at No. 2. In the top flight, Middlebury doubled its lead when Skylar Schossberger and Katherine Hughes earned an 8-4 victory against Joulia Likhanskaia and Sam Stadler. At No. 3, the duo of Pilar Giffenig and Sasa Jovanovic edged Alexandra Fields and Christina Puccinelli, 9-8 (6).
During singles play, the Panthers picked up the first two points for a 4-1 advantage. Heather Boehm defeated Stalder by scores of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, while Puccinelli breezed by Trinka in straight sets in the second flight (6-2, 6-0).
Likhanskaia tallied the second point for Bowdoin with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Fields in the top spot. Molly Paradies clinched the match for the Panthers with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 over Giffenig.
In the remaining matches that went unfinished, Blazye and Christ were in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 4 tied at 6-6, while Jovanovic held a 5-4 opening-set advantage in the sixth flight against Maddi Stow.
