The ninth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team capped off a successful weekend in which it knocked off a pair of top-seven nationally-ranked opponents with a 9-0 home NESCAC victory Sunday over #7 Tufts. On Saturday, the Panthers knocked off third-ranked Williams by a 6-3 tally. Sunday's match was played outdoors on the Proctor Tennis Courts. Middlebury returns to action on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. match at Colby.
The hosts started things off notching all three points during doubles play. The No. 3 tandem of Alexandra Fields and Christina Puccinelli posted an 8-0 victory over Conner Calabro and Katherine Wiley. The Panther team of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blayze cruised 8-2 in the second flight against Lauren Louks and Otilia Popa, while the No. 1 pair of Skylar Schossberger and Katherine Hughes were victorious 8-5 over Mina Karamercan and Julia Keller.
In singles, five of the six points posted by the Panthers came in straight sets. Blazye breezed by Alexa Meltzer at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3). Fields kept things rolling atop the lineup with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Karamercan, while Molly Paradies eased to a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the fifth spot against Keller.
Puccinelli was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Louks at No. 2, while Heather Boehm recorded a 6-1, 6-4 triumph in the third spot against Wiley. Schossberger completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 10-6 win against Calabro at No. 6.
