The second-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a victory in a matchup of top-20 opponents, recording a 9-0 road win at #20 Skidmore (10-7) at the Saratoga Springs YMCA. With the triumph, the Panthers have won 10-straight matches and improve to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in the NESCAC. Middlebury returns to the court next weekend at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Williams.
The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. In the third spot, Middlebury's Christina Puccinelli and Alexandra Fields eased by Skidmore's Jessica Ampel and Alexa Goldberg by an 8-2 score for the Panthers' initial point. The team of Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger doubled the lead with an 8-5 win in the top flight over Madie Benn and Michelle Fuca, while the No. 2 pair of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye were victorious by a 9-7 tally against Ada Wiggins and Brianna Greene.
In singles, the Panthers posted straight-set wins in four of the six matches. Puccinelli didn't surrender a game in the top spot against Wiggins (6-0, 6-0) for her 10th-straight win, while Heather Boehm posted her 12th-consecutive victory overall and clinched the match via a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Benn in the No. 2 spot.
Molly Paradies tallied a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win at No. 3 against Fuca, while Hughes made the score 7-0 in favor of the visitors with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Renee Karchere-Sun at No. 5. Maddi Stow battled back from a set down for a 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 win against Danielle Giannetti at No. 4, while Schossberger completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Greene in the sixth flight.
