The second-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team increased its winning streak to nine with a 9-0 NESCAC home victory Saturday over #12 Amherst (6-8, 4-4). The conference match took place on the Proctor Tennis Courts and was the home regular-season finale for Middlebury. The Panthers (12-3, 8-0) return to action on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. road match at 20th-ranked Skidmore.
The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. In the third spot, Middlebury's Christina Puccinelli and Alexandra Fields eased by Amherst's Megan Adamo and Claire Carpenter by an 8-0 score for the Panthers' initial point. The Panther team of Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger doubled the lead with an 8-6 win in the top flight over Kelsey Chen and Camille Smukler, while the No. 2 pair of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye were victorious by an identical 8-6 tally against Avery Wagman and Anya Ivenitsky.
In singles, the Panthers posted straight-set wins in five of the six matches. Heather Boehm breezed by Ivenitsky at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), while Fields clinched the match in the top spot with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Smukler. Blazye tallied a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 against Camilla Trapness, while Molly Paradies made the score 7-0 in favor of the hosts with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Adamo at No. 5.
Puccinelli recorded a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win against Chen at No. 2, while Maddi Stow fought back from a set down, closing out the sweep with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 triumph over Wagman in the sixth flight.
