Ninth-ranked Middlebury ended its spring trip to California with a convincing 9-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at the Pauley Tennis Complex in Claremont. The Panthers conclude their spring trip to the Lone Star state with matches against five top-25 teams and a 4-3 record, including a pair of narrow 5-4 setbacks to Division II schools. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday with a NESCAC home tilt against #3 Williams beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Middlebury started things off notching all three points during doubles play. The No. 2 tandem of Alexandra Fields and Maddi Stow posted an 8-1 victory over Briana Hartmann and Cal Carlson. The Panther team of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye edged Michaela Schulz and Ally Baker by an 8-6 score at No. 1, while the No. 3 pair of Molly Paradies and Skylar Schossberger claimed a 9-7 victory over Katie Aney and Lilly Hartman.
In singles, the Panthers dropped a combined 16 games during the six matches. Chirstina Puccinelli breezed by Baker at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), while Fields followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the top spot over Schulz.
Katherine Hughes kept things rolling with the match-clinching point at #6 via a 6-2, 6-1 win against Hartman, while Heather Boehm eased to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the third spot against Hartmann. Schossberger was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Carlson at No. 4, while Paradies completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph against Aney in the fifth flight.
