The third-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team opened up its spring season with a 9-0 home NESCAC victory Saturday over Bates in the Nelson Recreational Center. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday at home against Brandeis at 1:30 p.m.
Middlebury started things off notching all three points during doubles play. The No. 3 tandem of Molly Paradies and Heather Boehm posted an 8-1 victory over Lauren Hernandez and Kate Rosenthal. The Panther team of Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blayze cruised 8-0 in the second flight against Elizabeth Erbafina and Isabelle Rovinski, while the No. 1 pair of Alexandra Fields and Skylar Schossberger were victorious 8-5 over Maisie Silverman and Bella Stone.
In singles, the Panthers dropped a combined 12 games during the six matches. Fields breezed by Silverman at No.1 (6-0, 6-1). Orozco kept things rolling at #4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Rovinski, while Paradies eased to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the second spot against Erbafina.
Boehm was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Stone at No. 3, while Blayze recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win in the fifth spot against Rosenthal. Schossberger completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Olivia Voccola at No. 6.
