Middlebury is tied for third place after one day of action at the University of Vermont Carnival. Dartmouth leads with 460 points, followed by UVM (352), UNH (331) and the Panthers (321). Caroline Bartlett led the women's alpine team on day one with a victory in the giant slalom. Action resumes on Saturday with the men's and women's 10K classic races and the slalom events.

Bartlett earned her second victory of the season in the giant slalom after winning at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Her two-run time of 2:21.62 was .76 seconds better than the second-place finisher at the Stowe Mountain Resort. Lexi Calcagni turned in a solid 13th-place finish in 2:24.64, while Katy Greene was 22nd to round out the scorers (2:27.01).

Earning his best career carnival finish (second) on the men's side was Devon Cardamone. His two-run time of 2:16.69 was just .08 seconds off the winning time. Jack Schibli was the only other Panther to score in the event, placing 26th with a time of 2:21.19. Rob Cone was leading the pack and Colin Hayes was second after one run, but neither could complete their second trip down the mountain.

At the Trapp Family Lodge, Cate Brams led the Middlebury women in the freestyle sprint races, placing fifth overall with a best time of 3:57.19. Orli Schwartz was next for the Panthers in 18th place, earning a top time of 3:59.49. Rounding out the team's top-three finishers was Katie Feldman, who earned a 24th-place finish in 3:59.89.

In the men's races, Evan Weinman made the top 10 with a time of 3:18.52, earning the 10th slot. The next-highest Panther finisher was Sam Wood, who took home 16th place with a time of 3:16.52. Lewis Nottonson completed Middlebury's scorers in the event, finishing 31st overall in 3:21.44.
