Box Score The Middlebury men's basketball team went on an 18-7 run over the final 5:20 of the game to pick up an 84-75 road win at Colby (10-10, 1-6) on Friday night in Wadsworth Gym. The 16th-ranked Panthers (17-3, 5-2) return to action on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. tip-off at Bowdoin.
With the score knotted at 12-12 with 14:08 left in the opening half, Middlebury outscored the Mules 15-2 over the next 5:32 for a 27-14 lead. Colby chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to seven (31-24) on a jumper from Patrick Stewart at the 6:44 mark. Middlebury pushed the advantage back to double digits over the final minutes of the half, taking a 44-32 lead into the break on a lay-up by Jack Daly in the final seconds.
A lay-up from Jake Brown just over a minute into the second half gave the visitors at 14-point lead at 46-32. The Mules battled back over the next few minutes of action, eventually grabbing a one-point lead (63-62) on a pair of free throws from Stewart with 7:15 remaining.
The teams traded leads over the next few minutes before Stewart nailed a three with 5:30 left to give the Mules their last lead of the contest, 68-66. Middelbury's Matt St. Amour came down on the ensuing possession for Middlebury and nailed a three of his own, putting the Panthers in front for good.
The Panthers outscored the Mules 15-7 over the final five minutes of the contest, including eight points from St. Amour.
St. Amour finished with a team-high 27 points on 10-20 shooting from the floor to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Brown scored 15 points in the win, while Daly scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out a game-high seven assists. Eric McCord netted 10 points, while Nick Tarantino scored eight with six rebounds.
Stewart led all scorers with 29 points, Schlager added 13, while Sam Jefferson netted 10.
Middlebury shot 53.1 percent from the floor, including a 60 percent clip in the first half. The Panthers controlled the boards by a 48-31 margin, while Colby took 33 shots from behind the arc (10-33, .303).
