Elmira got on the board with 2:52 left in the first period with a power-play goal. Shannon Strawinski earned the tally, putting home a rebound in front after a shot by Louisa Lippiatt Durnell from the right point had been knocked down. The goal was the first allowed on a power play by Middlebury this season (10-11).
The Panthers tied the game with a power-play goal of their own 4:33 into the second session. Jessica Young converted a low cross-crease pass from Maddie Winslow for the equalizer. The assist was the 100th point of her career (42-58-100).
Elmira went back on top midway through the period at the 11:12 mark when Emma Crocker scored in front after a shot by Meghan Fonfara bounced off the back boards right to her stick.
The Soaring Eagles made it a two-goal game early in the third when Crocker struck again, this time, capitalizing on her own rebound at the 2:48 mark.
Kristin Chivers put the game away late, making it a 4-1 contest with 4:38 remaining.
Elmira held a slim 35-34 shots advantage in the game, as Kelcey Crawford made 33 stops to earn the win for Elmira. Lin Han made 31 stops between the pipes for Middlebury.
